Taco Royale

July 25th, 2021

Taco RoyaleI’m back at Great Dane for another one of its ghost kitchens. This time, it’s Taco Royale, which features burritos, bowls and of course, tacos.

You get two tacos on corn tortillas with each order. I went vegetarian, choosing the beer-battered cauliflower ($7). The fried cauliflower was delicious–crispy and flavorful. In fact, the pico de gallo and guacamole–while tasty–were unnecessary, and they made the taco a bit mushy.

Other toppings include roasted sweet potato ($7) and carne asada ($8.50).

Moving onto the bowls, I picked the cola-braised carnitas ($11.50). I was surprised the carnitas were not at all sweet, but they were super tender. They sit on top of a bed of lime rice along with pinto beans, guacamole, queso fresco, pickled red onion and pico de gallo (though mine was missing the pico de gallo), plus you get corn tortillas. The salsa ranchero livens up this dish.

Last but not least, especially on size, are the griddled burritos. They are big and hearty and stuffed with rice, pinto beans and chihuahua cheese. I really enjoyed the 12-hour brisket ($11.50), which was juicy and tender. As a result, I didn’t even use the accompanying sour cream and tomatillo salsa.

Taco Royale is open dinner every day and lunch Tuesday through Sunday at all four Great Dane locations via EatStreet.
