I’ve always mentioned to people from outside of the state how tired we are once summer is done because we’ve packed so much into a very short span. This weekend in the Madison area is another example, and here is how you can take it all in:

- 7:30 p.m. – Watch Thirsty Jones perform at Verona Hometown Days, which runs through Sunday.
Friday, June 2
- 8 a.m. – Get to the annual Attic Angel sale early for the best goods. Runs through Saturday at Keva.
- 5 p.m. – Have a pasta dinner at Festa Italia, running through Sunday at McKee Farms Park.
- 8 p.m. – Enjoy a performance by Second City at the Overture Center.
Saturday, June 3
- 8 a.m. – Moooo! Cows on the Concourse is located on the 200 block of MLK Jr. Blvd.
- 10 a.m. – Check out the classic cars at Cars on State.
- 11 a.m. – Have a beer and doughnut pairing at Field Table on National Doughnut Day.
- 1 p.m. – Watch Last Open Road perform at Sun Prairie Fest (also takes place on Friday).
- 6 p.m. – Catch some of the action from the American Ultimate Disc League as the Dallas Roughnecks face the Madison Radicals at Breese Stevens Field.
- 7 p.m. – Listen to Pat McCurdy at the Edgewater during its “Live and LocALE” event held each Saturday (begins at 6 p.m.).
Sunday, June 4
- 9 a.m. – Cosplay and gaming intertwine at Ohana-Con at the Monona Terrace (also held Friday and Saturday).
- 12:30 p.m. – Wash down some burgers with some microbrews at Burgers & Brew at Capital Brewery (also held Saturday).

Zoup!
I was impressed with the Pumpkin Pie Bisque ($5.25 for a cup) because it’s true to its name. It’s pureed pumpkin with brown sugar, cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg and tastes just like the pie. In other words, imagine putting a pumpkin pie in a blender until it liquefied–that’s this soup.
My No. 1 is French onion soup, and Zoup!’s version ($4.50 for 8 oz.) did not disappoint. It was very thick (instead of that watery crap other restaurants serve), had the right amount of salt and the onions were soft and tender, as they should be.
