Grateful Shed Truckyard

The Grateful Shed Truckyard is a new concept in Wisconsin Dells (technically, Lake Delton): it’s a giant room that features food trucks, unique seating, a center bar and party vibe that makes it a fun place to dine and hang out.

When you walk in the space once occupied by Club Wett (and before that, Marley’s), you’ll instantly see how the large space doesn’t quite resemble a restaurant as it does a public market. I was rocking out to the non-stop 80s music played overhead.

Here’s the process. Order your food from the food trucks, and you’ll be given a pager. Now you can go find a place to sit, which includes at the bar, picnic tables, outdoor tables, converted Scooby Doo Mystery Machine-type vans and even a converted coach bus.

Grateful Shed doesn’t have any servers, though staff members are prompt to clear tables. Soda is self-served at various fountain stations.

20190630_174032I won’t focus on the food that much, since it originates from Madison. I did enjoy everything I ate:

  • From Tavernakaya, the salmon poke bowl ($13) rivals those from poke restaurants. Meanwhile, I absolutely adored the spicy tuna un-roll ($7.50), which leaves the seaweed unwrapped.
  • From Pasqual’s, the Mexican street corn ($3.25) made for a zesty appetizer. The Korean BBQ taco ($3.95) was tiny–Bartaco tiny–but bursting with flavor nonetheless.
  • From Melted, the smashburgers ($8.25) were far better than standard burgers, but the cheese curds ($7.50) were disappointingly plain.
  • From Sugar Stream, the slushies pack a lot of sugar, considering they were topped with Nerds, Skittles, Sour Patch Kids and gummy bears.

My only negative experience was at the bar. The bartenders seemed to spend too much time chatting up a few customers and ignoring everyone else. Also, the cocktails and taps were pricey for the Dells. During happy hour, drinks are more reasonably priced at $2 off. I tried the Pink Panther ($8), which is a rum-based tap cocktail and a refreshing summer drink.

Grateful Shed Truckyard is open every day for lunch and dinner.
