Willie Ty’s Eatery

img_20180217_175602Willie Ty’s Eatery has the benefit of being located inside the ice arena in Sun Prairie, so it gets automatic business from visitors (parents) there. Still, I appreciate that the restaurant doesn’t phone it in–it actually has a decent selection of fancier burgers, sandwiches and appetizers.

For example, you’ll find pork belly sliders (three for $12) among the appetizers. I liked all the components, including the buttery sesame seed bun, the crispy onion strings, the pickled carrot and pickle. The pork belly was tender, but the exterior was cooked a little too long, making it slightly tough. The hoisin sauce added sweetness.

Meanwhile, the Windy City flatbread ($12) is soft, not cracker-like as so many other restaurants do, and garlicky. You get a huge helping of cheese and an uneven distribution of sausage and tomatoes that are buried in basil.

The Beef on Whack ($12) is one of several grilled cheese sandwiches. The beef was a bit overcooked, but the cheese and horseradish saved it. Instead of fries, I chose the tomato bisque, which was creamy and a little sweet, though it needed some salt and pepper.

img_20180217_174954No one makes a plain hamburger anymore, and Willie Ty’s is no exception. An example is the super juicy Muenster burger ($12). The first bite of the thick patty made the insides explode. Overall, it was an enjoyable burger, just have a bunch of napkins ready.

Other burgers include the Gooey Louie ($12, stuffed with cheddar) and the Gooey Bluey ($12, stuffed with bleu cheese). Also, almost every menu item is priced at $12 (seriously).

Willie Ty’s Eatery is open for lunch and dinner on Sundays and Tuesday-Saturday.
