Pasture and Plenty

20180208_121250Like many restaurants these days, Pasture and Plenty focuses on farm-to-table meals. It opened last summer across from the Inntowner Hotel where Sushi Box held court for many years.

Lunch is the main meal served, but I probably won’t be back during this time. The grains in the warm grain bowl ($9) were buttery and thus tasty enough by themselves, but with such a big helping, they got to be too much after a while. The carrots, peppers and overabundance of celery were lightly sauteed so they were still firm/crunchy. The egg comes over easy and is seasoned with pepper.

The ham sandwich ($8.50) was disappointing for a few reasons. One was its tiny size, and another was the tough baguette. After you eventually bite through it, the dominant flavor is the dijon mustard, which is too bad, because the thinly sliced ham tasted just like prosciutto, not typical deli ham. The other lunch items are the smoked mozzarella sandwich ($8.50) and the P&P house salad ($7), plus a soup of the day ($4 cup, $6 bowl).

The dessert choice on one visit was a gluten-free peanut butter cookie. It’s well made, as the cookie has both a good crunch and chew, and the peanut butter flavor is prevalent. I’d like to try the sea salt brownie on a future visit.

20180214_174410Ready-to-go chicken dinners are available on Wednesdays, with the menu changing weekly. The portions can feed one ($14), two ($25) or four ($40), and you may order a vegetarian version ($10, $17, $30). I had the chicken cacciatore (tofu was the vegetarian choice), which was plump, tender and juicy. It was smothered with the perfect amount of the thick, tomato sauce over a small bed of al dente pasta. Similar to the grains dish, the carrots here were undercooked. The dinner came with delicious focaccia bread that I used to sop up the sauce, as well as pot de creme, which was sweet, rich, custardy heaven in a jar.

One other meal that the restaurant offers is take home, weekly meal kits to which you subscribe in four-week cycles and pick up on Mondays. Note, they are suspended until March as the kitchen is renovated.

Pasture and Plenty is open for lunch Tuesday-Friday and dinner on Wednesdays.
