I’ve always enjoyed boba pearls in tea, but I never realized they could have alcohol in them. Thus, I happily accepted an offer to try Boba Pops.
The ready-to-use, popping boba pearls contain real liqueur, releasing a burst of flavor and spirits when popped. I liked that the pearls are strong, as the ABV is about 12.5%.
You can consume them straight up or use them to elevate a cocktail. The pearls are shelf-stable, but it is recommended to refrigerate them after opening.
Boba Pops are available in 375 ml bottles ($29.99), which make around 30 drinks, and 50 ml mini cups ($99 for 24). They come in fun flavors like frosted cranberry, margarita and lychee.
The first thing you notice when you pop the pumpkin spice pearls is that the flavor is true to its name, with the essence of nutmeg, clove and cinnamon prevailing. Per the recipe suggestion, I added them to an Old Fashioned, and I enjoyed this perfect cocktail for the fall season.
I also thought highly of the espresso pearls, which touted a rich coffee flavor and contained caffeine. Obviously, these pearls worked perfectly for an espresso martini, which I downed quickly, maybe too quickly.
Boba Pops are available for purchase on their website.
