As a belated celebration of National Watermelon Day (Aug. 7), I accepted an offer to try Wonder Melon, which is part of Wonder Juice’s lineup of organic cold-pressed juices.
The juices are USDA organic and non-GMO, with no added sugar or preservatives. The four varieties are Wonder Melon, Wonder Beet, Wonder Lemon and Wonder Green ($24.99 for a six-pack), and each of them has several variations.
- The Wonder Melon Watermelon (90 calories, 21 g. carbs, 1 g. protein) is made from organic watermelon juice and organic lemon juice. As simple as the list of ingredients may seem, it was an outstanding and refreshing combination.
- I enjoyed the Wonder Melon Lemon Cayenne (90 calories, 21 g. carbs, 1 g. protein) for its layering of flavors. First comes the tasty watermelon, then you get a bit more sweetness from the apple juice, followed by a hint of citrus and then ending with a nice bite from the cayenne.
- The Wonder Melon Cucumber Basil (80 calories, 18 g. carbs, 1 g. protein) was crisp, with the cucumber juice pairing very well with the watermelon juice. The basil added some savoriness.
“Watermelon has always been one of summer’s most beloved fruits, and Wonder Melon allows consumers to enjoy its refreshing taste in an entirely new way,” Wonder Melon General Manager Michele Abo said in a statement. “Whether you’re celebrating National Watermelon Month, National Watermelon Day, or simply looking for a delicious way to stay hydrated all summer long, Wonder Melon delivers the perfect balance of refreshment, nutrition and flavor.”
Of note, Wonder Melon is versatile enough that it can be used as an ingredient in various foods and cocktails.
In the Madison area, you can purchase Wonder Juice products at Metcalfe’s, Woodman’s and Piggly Wiggly, among other locations.
