Farmer in the Dells

Farmer in the DellsFarmer in the Dells and the Wisconsin Hotel opened together a few months ago, replacing the Wintergreen Grille and the Wintergreen Hotel, respectively, in Lake Delton. It’s easy to spot from the outside because of the iconic silo, which contains the Silo Bar.

Inside the restaurant, the interior isn’t farm-themed; rather, the walls are lined with photos that showcase the history of the Dells. The menu covers a wide range, including handmade thin-crust pizzas and a couple of steaks.

From the chicken coop section, I had to get the farmhouse broasted chicken ($24). The skin was wonderfully seasoned and deliciously crispy, and the meat was juicy. It’s definitely worth the wait that typically accompanies broasted chicken (usually 25+ min.), but mine was done in about 18 min.

I also tried the crispy chicken tenderloin ($18), which also used the house unique spice blend. Like the broasted chicken, these chicken tenders were outstanding.

Among the handhelds, I ordered the Haymaker burger ($20). The thick, juicy patty had an excellent grilled flavor and was topped with delicious applewood bacon, Swiss cheese, avocado and a sunny-side-up egg.

Farmer in the DellsIf you dine in on a Friday, make sure to try the tasty Canadian walleye ($32). I was impressed with the light and crispy batter as well as the flaky walleye.

To start your meal, Nana’s cheese bread ($12) is a safe bet. You receive four pieces of perfectly crunchy French bread topped with garlic butter, a five-cheese blend and green onions for some bite. Wings and cheese curds also are available as appetizers.

I didn’t dine in during breakfast, but items include skillets, omelets and made-from-scratch buttermilk pancakes.

Farmer in the Dells serves breakfast, lunch and dinner every day.
