Dawn Manor is a new restaurant in the Wisconsin Dells area (technically, it’s in Baraboo) that makes you feel like you’re taking a step back in time with early 1900s-themed rooms throughout the mansion. It was deconstructed at its former site in 2022 and reconstructed near Mirror Lake in 2024.
The building has multiple areas to eat or drink, including the main dining area upstairs called the Raab room, named after a former owner.
I suggest starting your meal with the beautifully crafted horseradish deviled eggs ($12). The yolk was swirled to resemble cupcake frosting and was very strong in the horseradish flavor, making them uniquely delicious.
I also liked the Wisconsin cheese curds ($13), which were gooey and perfectly fried. Other shareables include crispy brussels sprouts ($16) and steak crostini ($10), plus you can get soups and salads.
All the main entrees were so tempting, which means I think the restaurant did an excellent job of developing the menu. Take, for example, the Honest Abe All-American ($30), a meatloaf made with both beef and bacon plus cheddar cheese and buried under mac and cheese. The meatloaf was tender and incredibly flavorful and was complemented well by the accompanying garlic mashed potatoes and sauteed vegetables. I would have been fine without the mac and cheese, but it did add depth to the dish.
Continuing the theme of comfort foods, I also tried the Chicken Potsdam pie ($26) and the lobster bacon mac and cheese ($35). The former had a wonderful buttery and flaky crust and a hearty mix of tender chicken and vegetables. The latter was creamy with a little crunch on top from the added breadcrumbs and mixed with some delicious lobster chunks.
One other item I ordered was the Raab ribeye ($55 for 14 oz). The beef was tender with an excellent grilled flavor and coated in a herb butter. An 8 oz. filet ($55) also is available.
Make sure to try some of the specialty cocktails, either while dining or in the speakeasy in the basement. I enjoyed the Fleur Gimlet ($12) and the Classic Old Fashioned ($14, made with rye), among others.
Dawn Manor serves dinner every day and brunch on weekends.
