New eating challenge

Monday, August 24th, 2009

I’ve been intrigued by the thought of trying the Big Fat Ugly challenge at Fat Sandwich Company, which just opened up on State Street. For $25, you get a football-sized sandwich that consists of two rolls, four cheeseburgers, a double cheesesteak, a chicken cheesesteak, gyro meat, grilled chicken, bacon, sausage, mozzarella sticks, chicken fingers, chicken nuggets, mac n cheese bites, fried mushrooms, jalapeño poppers, pizza bites, onion rings, hash browns, American cheese, mayo, and ketchup. Eat this six pound monster in less than 15 minutes and your sandwich is free.

First, I think 15 min. is impossible. You couldn’t even blend this sandwich and drink it in that time.

Second, it’s a pretty funny sandwich. The creators must’ve just looked at some random restaurant menu and picked every appetizer and sandwich they saw.

I’ll let you know if and when I attempt this.

Buzzed Into Madison links

In case you didn’t catch it live on TV earlier this week, I was interviewed for Madison’s CW “Buzzed Into Madison.” Here’s the link to see it: http://www.madisonscw.com/SubPage.aspx?page=2798

Also, Martini Bob of Smoky’s restaurant added a screen shot of us on the front page of his Web site: http://www.martinibobs.com/

Buzzed Into Madison

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

buzzed-into-madisonOn Monday I was interviewed by Emmy Fink for her show on Madison CW called “Buzzed Into Madison.” For this episode, I took her to a couple of places that Madisonians have probably been to or heard of but didn’t realize all they had to offer.

First stop was Nam’s Noodles. While a great Asian food restaurant, it’s also where you can sing karaoke in private rooms. We got to sample some food on camera, too, despite both of us having just ate lunch and not being hungry. (And although you probably won’t hear the audio on the final segment, we did sing, and Emmy has a great voice!)

Then we went to Smoky’s, a well-known steakhouse in town. Just as impressive is its bar, home to Martini Bob and his 200 martinis. Of course Emmy and I sampled one, though it hit us right away since it was in the middle of the afternoon and we had to go back to work.

Looking forward to this appearing on TV (should be a couple of weeks). One thing that I’d like to mention is how quick and efficient Emmy and her cameraman (Dave) are. They didn’t have to spend much time setting up or over-shooting b-roll. We finished in about one hour.
