Just in time for Dry July, I accepted an offer to try Better Than Booze, a brand of mocktails that strives to serve real bar-quality flavor.
CEO Drea Groeschel co-founded the company in 2022 after seeking an alternative to her regular glass of wine. She also founded Beautiac, a subscription service for makeup brushes.
Each 12-oz. can of Better Than Booze ($50 for a 12-pack) has 60-70 calories and 26-29 g. of carbs. They are plant-based, gluten-free and vegan, and they come in three flavors:
- The Elderberry G&T did a good job of mimicking gin, as it had a slight juniper/piney and citrusy flavor.
- The grapefruit flavor was prevalent in the Rosemary Grapefruit Paloma, and it was finished with a slight floral note.
- The Mint Mojito with Lime was sweet with enough lime to add some depth.
I thought all the mocktails were very refreshing and easy to drink–perfect for Dry July or any month, for that matter. You can enjoy them straight out of the can or on ice.
Better Than Booze also makes a line of CBD+THC-infused and THC-infused beverages, though I did not try them.
In the Madison area, you can purchase Better Than Booze at grocery stores such as Hy-Vee and Piggly Wiggly, liquor stores such as Trixie’s and restaurants such as Salvatore’s Tomato Pies.
