Metztli Mexican Restaurant

MetztliMetztli Mexican Restaurant is not much to look at from the outside, but inside, it serves up big portions of Mexican cuisine.

Located on Todd Drive, the restaurant took the place of Dynasty II and didn’t improve the exterior at all. For example, the parking lot has no lines for parking spaces, so it’s a free-for-all.

I want to start by talking about the monstrosity known as Torta Moy ($27.49). When I saw the sandwich, I immediately said holy s***, as it is absolutely massive. You will need a knife and likely a fork to eat it because it is stacked with breaded chicken, smoked pork chops, ham, hot dogs, bacon, cheese, lettuce, potatoes, red onion, avocado, chipotle dressing and pineapple. The sandwich was fine–it’s more of a gimmick than anything. The chicken was tough and tasteless, the hot dogs could have been cooked a little bit more and the sliced potatoes needed to be fried.

Among the entrees–which appeared to be big enough to serve two people–I really wanted the Carnitas Metztli ($27.49), which features pork carnitas and other cuts of pork, but the restaurant was out. I also tried to order the El Del Corral ($31.89), a dish of pork chops, grilled chicken and steak, but it, too, was unavailable.

So I settled on the Enmoladas De La Casa ($20.99). The chicken inside the four tortillas was very dry but offset by the excellent mole, which had a nice earthy, chocolate and nutty flavor, plus it had some heat. This item was supposed to be served with rice, but I didn’t receive any. Still, I would order it again.

MetztliI also tried the tacos ($5 each). The corn tortilla shell was dry and pretty bad, but all the toppings I had–one with carnitas, one with al pastor and one with asada–were all tender and delicious, but the tacos seemed overpriced.

Same with the Gordita Metztli ($9.49). The corn masa shell was bland and tough, but fortunately, the chorizo, cheese and onion made the gordita a tasty appetizer.

Metztli Mexican Restaurant serves lunch and dinner every day.
