Silk Road

Silk RoadIt’s not much to look at from the outside, but inside Silk Road on the south side is some delicious cuisine from Central Asia.

Take the Tavuk wrap ($14.99) as proof. This excellent wrap has got some heft. The grilled chicken is tender with a perfect char flavor, and the wrap is grilled, making it even tastier. I am pretty sure there were some fries tucked in there alongside the tomato, lettuce, cucumber and yogurt sauce, even though they’re not in the description.

I also loved the mantu ($17.99 for five pieces). The dumplings are filled with a well-seasoned “meat filling” (ground beef) and diced onions, making them very similar in flavor to a beef pasty. Both the tomato sauce (for savory) and creamy yogurt (for sour) complement the mantu well. My only wish was that the structure was stronger, as they fell apart easily.

Silk RoadLike kebabs? There are several varieties on the menu. The beef kebabs ($16.99) are big, thick chunks of tender beef that are gently seasoned. Yum. Oddly, the rice was a little dry, and the accompanying half-piece of pita could have been softer.

Other items include the roasted lamb ($20.99) and the grilled salmon ($17.99), plus a few salads.

For dessert, I tried the kabak tatlisis ($7.99), a special. The slices of pumpkin had an almost gelatin-like form and were sweet with a strong nutmeg flavor. The chopped walnuts helped bring balance in terms of texture and flavor.

Silk Road serves lunch and dinner Tuesday-Sunday.
