Happy Day Pastas, Oats

Happy Day RotiniHappy Day Brands creates products that are “Good For You, Good For All,” and I accepted an offer to try some of its new gluten-free products.

First up is the gluten-free organic pasta ($23.99 for a 3-lb. bag), which is made from rice, quinoa, and amaranth with no refined flour. All the pasta is organic, vegan and kosher, and it’s produced in a dedicated allergen-friendly facility. I thought the rigatoni (penne, spaghetti and mini shells are other options) absorbed the flavor of the sauce I used very well, and it held its al dente firmness throughout the meal.

Meanwhile, the gluten-free organic protein pasta ($24.99 for a 3-lb. bag) also is made from rice and quinoa, plus lentils and beets, which give it a maroon color. Each 2-oz. serving has 10 g. of protein, 39 g. of carbs and 205 calories. I tried the penne–you also can get spaghetti, mini shells and rigatoni–which had a dense chew and slightly grainy taste that reminded me of wheat pasta. Make sure to use a liquid-y sauce with it.

Happy Day OatsI really enjoyed the gluten-free rolled oats ($7.49 for a 32-oz. bag), which are free of preservatives and artificial ingredients. I made a lazy oatmeal by adding water and then microwaving the oats, and I thought it was a better bowl of oatmeal than other versions I’m currently eating. I look forward to making some cookies with these oats.

Happy Day Brands also makes coffee, flour, pancake mix and protein powders. Of note, the company features a “Buy One, Give One” program that provides meals for every product purchased to Feeding America’s regional food bank partners.

You can purchase Happy Day Brands products on its website.
