Creamalicious Ice Cream

Creamalicious is a Southern-inspired ice cream that recently became available in Wisconsin. I accepted an invitation to try several of the flavors.

The ice cream ($5.99 for a pint) is the brainchild of Chef Liz Rogers, whose award-winning flavors were inspired by her family’s recipes passed down through four generations in the South.

“We craft our desserts by harnessing the familiar experience that Southern comfort foods bring, and blend it with a culinary artistry that feeds our spirit,” Rogers said in a statement.

I liked that the flavors were unique without being weird or gross. Plus, as the name implies, Creamalicious is creamier and richer than most ice creams. All of them serve as 2-in-1 desserts, as they combine premium French ice cream with fresh-baked pastry. I bet you’ll love them as much as I did:

  • Thick as Thieves Pecan Pie is an absolute delight. It’s got yummy swirls of caramel and chunks of pie crust, and the bits of candied pecans were soooo good. It took a lot of willpower to put the pint down.
  • Aunt Poonie’s Caramel Pound Cake tastes just like the pecan pie ice cream, just without the pecans.
  • In your first bite of Granma Gigi’s Sweet Potato Pie, you’ll immediately taste brown sugar, cinnamon and sweet potato. Of all the flavors I tried, this one most closely resembled a pie.
  • Uncle Charles Brown Suga Bourbon Cake had an even stronger brown sugar flavor than Granma Gigi’s, and it was sweeter. You can detect a bit of the oakiness from the bourbon.
  • If you’ve ever wondered what a banana runt would take like in ice cream form, you’ll know after eating Slap Yo’ Momma Banana Pudding. After you get through the slight shock of the first bite, you’ll find yourself wanting more. It was a bit hard to discern the shortbread cookie chunks.
  • I think I would have enjoyed Right as Rain Red Velvet Cheesecake more without the chunks of fudge in it. Don’t get me wrong–the fudge is delicious, but it overpowers the entire flavor, so you’re basically eating chocolate ice cream, not red velvet.
  • Each bite of the Porch Light Peach Cobbler is bursting with peach flavor. It comes with a generous portion of peaches, which are complemented by the graham cracker swirls. Mmm!

You can find Creamalicious at Meijer’s and Wal-Mart.
