Good Idea

good-ideaGood Idea, a healthy alternative to sugary sodas, made its American debut last year. Intrigued, I accepted an offer to test them out.

Developed by Swedish company GoodIdea, the sparkling water is unsweetened, all natural, vegan and non-GMO. Its main health benefit is that is has a proprietary blend of five amino acids and chromium that helps the body reduce blood sugar levels by 20-30% following a carb-rich meal.

“We’re on a mission to bring health to the table,” GoodIdea CEO Björn Öste said in a statement. “We see a trend coming, where people replace their sugary drinks with water, and adding the functionality of Good Idea, we are at the forefront.”

(If the company GoodIdea sounds familiar, it’s because it also is the company behind Oatly oat milk.)

All three flavors–orange mango, dragon fruit and lemon-lime–are fairly true to their name. Dragon fruit is the “sweetest” of the three and my favorite. If you’re not into sparkling water, this would be your choice.

Meanwhile, orange mango has a strong aftertaste, and lemon-lime is the mildest in flavor. I sort of hate to admit this, but I also tried them mixed with vodka, and the resulting cocktails were quite enjoyable.

Besides helping to reduce the slump after meals, Good Idea is tasty enough to replace Klarbrunn or LaCroix as your choice of sparkling water. You can buy a 12-pack online for $29.95, and you can find Good Idea using the store locator.
