Taqueria Jalisco replaced Taqueria Gonzalez in a strip mall in Middleton and maintained its status as a place to satisfy your Mexican food cravings.
The menu here has a little more breadth and depth. As an example of the former, you can find a variety of plates such as the Alambre ($13.99), a massive and delicious hodgepodge of steak, pork, bacon, bell peppers, onions, pineapple and cheese. Good luck finishing this dish in one sitting.
Other plates include the milanesa de pollo ($13.99) and the carne asada fries ($14.99).
Regarding depth, Taqueria Jalisco has several meat choices not often found on other menus. Among the tacos ($3.25), I loved the lomo taco (+$0.74), topped with tender, braised pork loin that had a ton of flavor.
Meanwhile, the suadero taco (+$0.34) featured yummy strips of beef and fried onions. Some of the beef was a bit chewy, but not to the detriment of the entire taco.
I went slightly more traditional with the burrito ($12.99), choosing al pastor. Overall, the burrito was good and full of flavor, but it could have been better with a higher meat-to-veggie ratio, as many bites I was only eating lettuce, tomato and onions.
The a la carta section of the menu has items such as tostadas ($4.99) and sope ($3.99). I picked the gordita ($4.99), which had a wonderful shell that did its best to hold a generous portion of tender, grilled chicken plus lettuce, tomatoes, onions, cheese and sour cream.
Taqueria Jalisco serves lunch every day and dinner Monday through Saturday.
