The vineyard has Cabernet Sauvignon (70%), Merlot (25%), Cabernet Franc (3%) and Petit Verdot (2%) grape varieties.

After reading up on the impressive history of the wine, I couldn’t wait to sip some. I started with the Grande Reserve Carmenere 2017 ($18.99) from the Los Vascos collection, which is comprised of wine from the “Napa Valley of Chile.” I absolutely adored the Carmenere, as it has a bold fruit flavor (perhaps plum) with a simple finish and could pair well with basically any food.

Other Los Vascos wines include a sauvignon blanc 2018 ($11.00) and a grande reserve cabernet sauvignon 2017 ($18.99). I thought the wines were reasonably priced.

Next on my list was the Château Odilon 2016 Haut-Médoc ($34.99) out of the Bordeaux Châteaux portfolio. It’s named after the painter Odilon Redon, who spent his childhood and most of his life on the property. The wine is a blend of merlot (85%) and cabernet sauvignon (15%). I thought the cab portion stood out in this aromatic wine that has notes of licorice.

All the wines in this collection are very different from each other. For example, the Moulin de Duhart Pauillac 2016 ($59.99) boasts aromas of deep dark black fruits and cedar.

Domaines Barons de Rothschild also has three wines in its CARO collection, which combine French and Argentine cultures, and four wines in its Domaine d’Aussieres collection, which are crafted in the spirit of the South of France.

In Madison, you’ll be able to find some of these wines at Total Wines.

Photos from Domaines Barons de Rothschild

I’m glad I accepted an offer to try some wine from Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite), because I really enjoyed the wine and am sure other wine drinkers would, too.
