Pinckney Street side of the Capitol Square, you could get sandwiches from Quizno’s, Subway, Cousins and Kitchen Hearth/Cranberry Creek/Todofresco. Now, they’re all gone, but fortunately, there’s a much better place that recently opened, and that’s Dinotto.

Every component of the South Sider ($14) hit perfectly. The sandwich combined some tasty porketta with saffron caper aioli for some sweetness, some mustard for tanginess and a huge slice of taleggio cheese for creaminess inside an absolutely delicious toasted hoagie roll.

The eggplant parmesan ($14) also was outstanding. The breading was crisp, and the eggplant inside was tender. It maintained its texture while holding onto the parmesan and mozzarella cheeses, plus Nana’s red sauce. Meanwhile, the arugula provided some bite.

Want a filling sandwich? The Siciliano ($13) was stacked high with pepperoni, salami, capicola, mortadella and provolone inside a hoagie roll. I got the meat sweats eating this sub. All the flavors you expect are there, along with the addition of house vinaigrette, lettuce and onions.

Other sandwiches include the meatball grinder ($14), the hot Italian beef ($14) and the caprese ($12).

Sides/extras include truffle fries with caper aioli ($5.99), farro salad ($3.99) and cannoli ($9 for three).

Dinotto serves lunch Monday through Friday.
