Despite its location amid college bars, Danny’s Pub has a surprisingly good menu and probably would be a better fit in a location like Greenway Station.
Of course at an Irish establishment you’re going to find staples such a shepherd’s pie ($12.99 and misspelled on the menu as “shepard’s” pie). I tried the cheeseburger shalaylees ($9.99), which were ground beef inside an egg roll wrapper. I thought they were delicious–very beefy but barely any cheese inside a perfectly golden shell, and the flavor is strong enough by itself but even better with the drizzle of avocado ranch on top and chipotle mayo on the side. A great way to start your meal.
Sandwiches and burgers make up the bulk of the menu. Danny’s Pub Burger ($7.99) is simply topped with lettuce, tomato and onions. The patty was juicy and sat inside a buttery bun. Next time I’ll order the Kilkenny Burger ($9.99), topped with cheese, corned beef and sweet cabbage slaw.
I recommend the Molly Sandwich ($9.99), featuring Sriracha-grilled chicken, pepper jack cheese, caramelized onions, roasted red peppers and lettuce on ciabatta bread. You definitely notice the kick from the Sriracha, and the grilled veggies add more depth to the flavor. In the California chicken club ($9.99), you get that same delicious grilled chicken, which is the predominant flavor despite the avocado and bacon on it. The sandwich did get a bit dry, so I dipped it in the chipotle mayo from the shalaylees.
The Pot of Gold Mac and Cheese ($12.99) seems overpriced. It’s shell pasta in a cheddar cheese sauce that could have been creamier. The flavor is very sharp, and you can discern the Guinness Beer that’s used in the sauce. You also get a little bit of crunch from the toasted panko crumbs sprinkled on top.
Danny’s Pub is open every day for lunch and dinner, plus it serves brunch on the weekends. Note that other than a few meter spots, there’s not a lot of parking nearby.
