Reading the Sandwich: A Global History list of 50 Notable Sandwiches got me really hungry. From Bahn Mi to cheesesteak to reuben, to sandwiches I’ve never heard of (e.g. bauru, which is a combination of three cheeses melted in a double-broiler with roast beef, tomato and gherkins in a French roll).
However, I was surprised more obvious sandwiches such as the Cuban, French Dip, pulled pork and hamburger weren’t included. Meanwhile, Vanda Pav (deep-fried spiced mashed potato patties in a bun) and Francesinha (a “wet croque-monsieur”) made it.
What do you think about this list? Are there other sandwiches from this country and others that should have been included?
